Volkswagen, one of the top passenger car makers in Germany, has confirmed that its new compact sedan to showcase at the next coming Auto Expo 2016. In fact, the company has been working on the project of compact sedan for the Indian market, which is one of the essential markets for the German car maker. Volkswagen has not yet released the name of the compact sedan, which is to be manufactured at the company’s Pune production facility in Chakan. And, the production of the product to be scheduled in the first half of 2016 and it will go on sale in India by the end of year.
Volkswagen announced that the new compact sedan specially designed for India to get the long term response from the customers with the company’s new commitments. Along with the compact sedan, Volkswagen will bring a new sport utility vehicle in the Indian car market by the end of 2016, according to the earlier reports. But, there is no information released by the company about the compact SUV.
The Indian market will expect the substantial products from Volkswagen like sub-4 metre compact sedan and compact SUV in the next two to three years, said by Michael Mayer, director of Volkswagen (passenger cars) in 2014. The Indian auto market is likely to be one of the biggest markets by the end of the decade with the new strategic models.
In the initial days of 2014, Volkswagen India has announced that the company invests Rs. 1500 crore for the long-term investment plan to increase the facilities and installing the new equipment. As part of the plan, the company is investing of Rs. 720 crore for the new compact sedan, in terms of setting up the latest equipment, increasing the production facilities and developing. Now, the Volkswagen plant is getting ready with the new facilities and changes committed for the production of compact sedan will be started from the early month of 2016.
According to Michael Mayer, the company is to focus on the Indian customer’s special requirements for the new compact sedan, which is to take on the current popular products like Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent, Tata Zest and Maruti Swift Dzire.
