After the official launch of Maruti Baleno at Frankfort Motor Show, Maruti Suzuki has confirmed the Baleno premium hatchback, which would be introduced in the festival period, in the Indian market. The Baleno was designed using the concept of iK2 that was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in the month of March. Ahead of its launch, the company has continuously testing the Suzuki Baleno with sub 4-metre length, dual types of engines and a new body shape. With a body length of 3,995mm, width of 1470mm and height of 1470mm, the Maruti Baleno will available in India, in the premium hatchback segment.

The Maruti Baleno will get the high-efficient engines from its best-selling product Swift for the Indian auto market. The upcoming hatchback will come up with dual fuel-type engines, a 1.2-liter k-series petrol with pack of a CVT and a 5-speed manual transmit and a 1.3-litre DDiS diesel with 5-speed MT. In addition, the diesel engine will also get the Suzuki’s small hybrid system (SHVS) to obtain the high fuel-economy. Already this technology introduced in the Maruti Ciaz by the company and the product generates 28.09kmpl mileage that is a top-record among the Indian-specific hatchback models.
The Suzuki Baleno for European market will get a three-cylinder 1.0-litre Boosterjet engine that is turbocharged and a 1.2-litre DualJet Motor with pack of SHVS. The Engine configuration of Euro-specific Baleno is confirmed by Suzuki at the German show while the turbo engine will not confirmed for India.
The European-specific Suzuki Baleno has come up with the features like LED daytime running lights, projector headlights, 16-inch alloy wheels, reverse camera, rear wiper and washer, rear spoiler, chrome door handles with keyless entry button and wing mirrors with turn indicators. Out of all these features, most of them will available on the top variants Z and Z+ of Baleno, according to the spy images when the product has tested on Indian roads.
The Baleno of Maruti was discontinued from the Indian auto market in 2006 and the product was replaced by the SX4 (Ciaz). Like Versa (relaunched as the Maruti Eeco) and the SX4 S-Cross (launched in India as the Maruti S-Cross), the company has decided to re-launching the model with the same Suzuki Baleno nameplate in India.
The models of Suzuki Baleno would be exported to the global market from India after its official launch. The stylish interior of the model was featured with automatic climate control, a latest instrument cluster that displays torque as well as power readouts, multi-function steering wheel and Maruti’s new SmartPlay infotainment system with few options.
With a unique formation and impressive performance, it will overtake the current hatchbacks, the Volkswagen new Polo, Honda Jazz and Hyundai Elite i20 once it launched. At present the Maruti S-Cross is currently selling under Maruti’s NEXA outlets and this product is expected to be sold under the same network. The Suzuki Baleno will go on sale in the period of spring (March to May 2016) and the availability of this model will be spread to Australian, Latin American, Thai and African markets.
