The Alto is one of the smallest cars of Maruti Suzuki and popular hatchback among its kind of models in the country. The Alto car has seen a divine journey since more than a decade to till date and the new report suggested that the model will reach the milestone with the sales of 3 million units by March 2016. In the domestic market, it is one of the top ten best-selling cars, which are mostly from Maruti Suzuki, namely Swift Dzire, Wagon R, Swift and Celerio. Now, the Alto 800 and Alto K10 are the two Alto series models available in the Indian market at an affordable price range. From the last decade, the Alto has got the 2.50lakh units of sales for a year. Besides, it gets the highest sales of 3.47lakh units of sales in the fiscal year of 2010 to 2011 and 3.08 lakh units in the duration of 2011 to 2012.
Launched in 2000, the Alto was offered in two variants to replace the very popular Zen but, the model has given the toughest competition instead of replacement. At that time, the model was offered with the 796cc and 1100cc engines on the LX and VX variants and best interiors and exteriors. Later, the company added the power steering feature to the Alto and all Maruti Suzuki models as Hyundai introduced Santro with the same power steering feature inn 2001. Hence, 2000 Alto renamed its variant’s names as LXi and VXi.
Alto 800 Series:
After three years, the Alto 800 series model has been launched in late 2003 at the reduced price of more than Rs. 20,000 on the model than the before generation model. The company has achieved the sales of 2 lakh units annually from then onwards with the minor changes, according to Maruti Suzuki.
The Maruti Suzuki Alto has received its first facelift with some updates in 2005 to get the more sales and the company has seen the highest sales of over 2 lakh units. Later, the company has introduced Alto K10 with the powerful 998cc K-Series engine. The Alto has obtained 3,46,840 units and 3,08,288 units of sales in the fiscal years of 2010-11 and 2011-12. In addition, the model has received the first million units of sales in 2012 and the second million came in 2013.
2013 Maruti Alto 800:
The 2013 model series was introduced with the changes in terms of performance, design, comfort and it was achieved the fuel efficiency of 22.4kmpl. Later, the Alto introduced with the automated manual gearboxes on its some of variants. Suzuki has sold more than 5 million units of Alto models in the Japanese market while the company has been exported the 2,80,000 units of Alto hatchback from India. The special editions of Alto have been introduced with the special attractions and features, which were available for a certain time period. Moreover, the next-generation Alto model is under working process and that may be introduced in 2017 with the high engines and advanced equipment.
New products from Maruti Suzuki are the Baleno, which has exported to Europe, S-Cross, and AMT versions of existed products including Swift. The upcoming models from the Indian carmaker, Maruti Suzuki are Ignis concept-based model, compact SUV is Vitara Brezza and a few of models, around 10 to 15 models are to be introduced in India by the end of the decade (2020).
