In the Indian SUV market, Mahindra is the leader and its products Scorpio, Bolero and XUV 500 are the highest selling SUVs. Mahindra has seen the considerable drop in the northern region due to the heavy diesel vehicle’s registration ban, which has been ordered by the Supreme Court to control the emission levels in the Delhi’s air. To overcome from the issue, the company has introduced the Scorpio and the XUV 500 with the 1.99-litre mHawk diesel engine.
Around one month back only, Mahindra has confirmed the both SUV models with the lightweight diesel engine, which gives around outputs of the regular models. With the new engine, the new XUV 500 returns the power of 138bhp and the torque of 320Nm that is 10Nm lower than the outgoing model. Similarly, the Mahindra Scorpio produces 120bhp power and the torque of 280Nm. The new versions of both models offered in 2-wheel drive option and the standard 5-speed manual transmission. The automatic gearbox is offered as an optional transmission on the 1.99L based Scorpio and XUV 500.
The two cars are to be offered in the similar versions and features of the 2.2-litre based existing models. That means whatever the versions and features available in the existed models are offered in the 1.99L based models. The 1.99L Scorpio has been introduced for the ex-showroom price tag of Rs. 9.67lakh to Rs. 12.75lakh while the 1.9L XUV 500 offered at the price range of Rs. 11.58lakh to Rs. 15.51lakh in Delhi.
As of now, these two models available in Delhi but, the company will introduce them in all regions of the country by observing the acceptance in the SUV market. Of course, the SUVs with the downsized engines will continue the same recognition and impression in the country like the existing popular SUVs. Mahindra has expected that the sales of the models will be increased in the market as no company has introduced the models with the downsized engines.

A few of new concepts are under process like Mahindra Halo and Mahindra XUV Aero, which is the concept showcased at the Delhi Auto Expo.
