Mahindra’s much awaited S101 (XUV 100) to be launched in the country’s car market in the third week of January, 2016, based on the report from the Economic Times. Till today the industry expected that the S101 is to be offered in the compact SUV segment. But, the new sources indicated that the S101 / XUV 100 will launch in the hatchback segment against the current hatchbacks like Renault Kwid, Hyundai Eon, Chevrolet Beat and the Maruti hatchbacks like Celerio and Wagon R.
The S101 model has been tested by Mahindra on the Indian busy roads to check the performance of the vehicle. It will be offered by the two types of engines, 1.5-litre diesel and 1.2-litre petrol with the three-cylinder options. The five-speed manual gearbox is the standard one to be equipped in the both fuel variants of S101 whereas the five-speed automatic gearbox (AMT) is an optional feature to be available in the diesel models.
The S101 could receive the mHawk80 diesel engine and the automatic transmission from the newly introduced TUV 300, which is the current popular compact SUV in India. After the Mahindra TUV 300, the Mahindra S101 is a 5+1 seater to be designed based on the monocoque platform.
Starting from the exterior features, the S101 gets the pillar mounted door handles at the rear, chrome finished rear fog lamps, simple halogen headlamps and a rear wiper. The interior of the S101 is likely to get the black coloured dash board with the silver finished door handles and centre console, the infotainment system featuring the small display and bench-type of front seats.
