The Audi R8 Spyder, the upcoming model of the luxury car maker is to be developed with the high-level German engineering, has been unveiled at the New York auto show. The car is mostly similar to the second-generation model of the Audi R8 Coupe and featured the additional attractions in terms of design, security and performance. The 2016 R8 Spyder is constructed with the carbon fibre body structure, which gives more stiffening to the roof structure, side sills, A-pillars, as well. With this kind of body framework, the new Audi car reduces its overall weight by 113 kg than the previous-gen model introduced in around 7 years back. Moreover, the flagship model claims the 50 percent improvement in terms of the overall rigidity than the 2009 model.
The new Audi car comes with the same height and wheelbase of the predecessor model while the length is reduced by 14mm and the width is increased by 36mm. So that, the new Audi R8 Spyder measures the length of 4426mm, the width of 1940mm, height of 1244mm and wheelbase of 1650mm. Of the design, the car features the fully automatic roof, which opens and closes in about 20 seconds of time at the car speed up to 50kph. The car also featured the glass rear window, which is to be extended and retracted automatically.
Speaking about the performance, the car powered by the 5.5-litre V10 naturally-aspirated petrol engine, which develops the 532bhp. The power generated by the car is based on its kerb weight so that the new Audi R8 return the power of 330bhp per tonne with a 1612kg of kerb weight. The torque returned with the car is 398lb ft with the four-wheel drive system, electrohydraulic multi-plated clutch and the standard 7-speed automatic gearbox.
The new R8 Spyder claims the top speed at 198mph or 316kph by reaching the acceleration speed of 0-100kph in just 3.6 seconds. Compare with the R8 Coupe, it will slower than 5kph and 0.1 seconds acceleration time. At overall, the upcoming Audi car claims the 10 percent combined fuel-economy improvement than the 2009 R8 Spyder, which is rated at 8.5kpl or 24.1mpg with 277g/km CO2 emissions.
Another variant of the Audi R8 Spyder is to be expected in the end months of 2016 with the 5.2-litre V10 601bhp petrol engine from the R8 Plus.
